Bisbee is a historic mining town in Arizona with a population of only about 5,000 people. It’s known for its unique culture and quirky residents, and that includes the local businesses. If you’re new to Bisbee or just looking for something fun to do on your next trip, here are some of the things that make this small town so special.
Rooster Cookie Jars, Bisbee
Rooster Cookie Jars have been a popular souvenir in Bisbee since the 1880s. The chickens are made with Bisbee’s famous red clay and modeled after roosters who, according to local legend, crowed all night long on the day of Christ’s crucifixion. Rooster Cookie Jars can be found at many shops throughout town and make great gifts for friends and family back home.
Bisbee World War II Memorial, Bisbee
There’s a World War II memorial in Bisbee, and it’s one of the most unique things you’ll see in this town. Located right in the center of downtown, it’s a great place to stop and reflect on history. The memorial was built by local artist Susan Forrer out of old guns and ammunition, which were donated by local residents. There are also plaques with each person’s name who served during World War II as well as their rank, branch of service and years served.
You can stop here for some time alone or bring your family for an afternoon stroll through town—you won’t regret either option!
Winery of the Month – Diablo Trust Winery, Bisbee
Diablo Trust Winery has been making wine in the beautiful town of Bisbee since 2007. The family-owned business was started by winemaker Lynn Jones and her husband, Troy. The name Diablo Trust comes from a nickname that Lynn has had all her life: Diablita (Spanish for little devil).
The winery produces red wines, white wines and rosé wines using grapes from vineyards throughout Arizona as well as California and Washington State. All you need to do to take advantage of this monthly offer is sign up for their mailing list or follow them on Facebook!
