Sierra Vista is a small town in southeastern Arizona, about an hour from Tucson and just over 2 hours from phoenix. we have a population of about 43,000 people who love our great location between the city lights and the beautiful mountains of southern Arizona. here are some fun things for visitors to do when they come visit sierra vista:

Elk Creek Rooster, Sierra Vista Farmers Market, Obon Festival

  • Elk Creek Rooster: This place makes some of the best coffee in town and is also a great spot to catch up with friends or meet someone new.
  • Sierra Vista Farmers Market: This local farmer’s market is held every Saturday from 8 am to noon, rain or shine!
  • Obon Festival: Come enjoy Japanese American heritage and culture at this annual event held each year at El Rinconcito Borrego near the Santa Cruz River.

Sierra Vista Is Located In Cochise County Of Southeastern Arizona

Sierra Vista is a city in Arizona, and it is located in Cochise County of southeastern Arizona. The surrounding valley is part of the larger region known as Cochise County. Sierra Vista was first founded as Camp Huachuca by Major General George Crook in 1877, during what’s known as the Apache Wars. Nowadays, Sierra Vista is best known for its military presence and its large number of retirees that have chosen to live here over other Sunbelt cities like Phoenix or Tucson. It’s also home to Fort Huachuca (which served as one of America’s major training grounds during World War II), Coronado National Memorial Park (one of the most visited national parks in Arizona), several museums dedicated to preserving local history including Cochise County Historical Society Museum & Archives–a museum that houses thousands of items related to daily life at Fort Huachuca throughout history)

By 1890, Tombstone had become one of the most productive silver mines in Arizona Territory. In its heyday, it had over 5,000 residents but today only about 80 people live there!

Where can I go hiking in Sierra Vista AZ?

  • Chiricahua National Monument: Located just 20 miles north of Sierra Vista, this national monument is best known for its historic Plaza de los Escudos and the Cave of the Bats. The Plaza de los Escudos is a large area with over 300 Native American petroglyphs and pictographs carved into rocks by prehistoric Indians. The Cave of the Bats contains over 200 million Mexican free-tailed bats that live in an underground cave during the summer months!
  • Coronado National Memorial: This memorial commemorates Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado’s expedition through Arizona in 1540. Visitors can see his campsite at Turkey Creek, where he spent two weeks on his way from Mexico City to Cibola (now New Mexico). They can also view several exhibits about his expedition at Park Headquarters, which are open daily except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day from 9am–4pm.*
  • Fort Huachuca: Located about 30 minutes southeast of town on Highway 92/180 near mile marker 439 lies one of America’s most historical military installations—Fort Huachuca! Established in 1877 as one of our country’s first permanent Army posts westward expansion continues today with soldiers stationed here still providing critical training operations across our nation as well as abroad.*
  • Sierra Vista Scenic Byway: This beautiful drive passes right through town offering stunning views along its route through many different landscapes including desert valleys with dramatic rock formations such as those found at Picture Rocks National Monument; saguaro forests where you’ll find some pretty amazing cactus flowers growing among them like those found throughout Saguaro National Park & Tucson Mountain District; rolling hills covered with oak trees where wildflowers bloom during springtime months before transitioning into pine forests.
